Newbie as a registered user but have been reading TeX posts here for a couple of years. I'm trying to write a 600-page PhD dissertation, rife with pictures, with LaTeX. Floats are my worst nightmare.

I use TeXstudio 2.11, on an iMac running OSX 10.11.5 El Capitan.
