I am a research biologist at Stanford University. I work entirely computationally on evolutionary questions. I also built and maintain a 160 core, 20 machine compute cluster with over 50TB of disk space. I work largely with python (particularly python3), R, and shell scripting.

My interests right now are in the medical field, with research interests in pain management, altitude sickness, and, more recently, population data in under-served communities.

comment reconfiguration issues with dpkg
This is great thanks moiri. I had previously answered a related question suggesting rebooting into insecure mode to build. I can confirm this works for the secure boot issue. I believe Ramon had a different issue, probably with dkms, that presented similarly.

comment issue reinstalling virtualbox-dkms
It's possible that this issue happens for multiple reasons. Essentially something is blocking the ability to create new unsigned kernel modules (I believe). For me and other people that was secure boot, but perhaps for you it is was an apt or dkms bug of some sort, given the solution that worked for you.

comment Which pam module is used for gnome admin password requests?
For anyone who wants to add offline yubikey 2FA for root access, you can follow the guide here: developers.yubico.com/yubico-pam/… but instead of using the common-auth module, use the polkit-1 module like muru says, as well as the sudo and su modules. Be aware you can permanently lock yourself out of your system if you aren't careful.
