@FelixKling So $(".RowClassName").on("focus", ".columnClassName td:first-child input", function() { previousName = this.value; }).on("change", ".columnClassName td:first-child input", function()... ? There's no way around having to rewrite the same selector each time?

I see what you're saying in the first part, but that part is working and "this" after the focus is indeed the input element.

also the toggle functions aren't applying to the added rows when just using .append()

But doing append() will carry the additional column with it. Is there a way to use append in this fashion while at the same time adding/removing that last <td>?

Great! Please mark the answer as accepted when you can. Also as a side note, interop is notorious for memory leaks if not used correctly, not to mention it requires Excel to be installed. I'd check out closed xml if you continue doing excel creation/manipulation.
