error on mxd.save/saveACopy Chaz...you are correct. You cannot overwrite a mxd. I had to define 2 separate variables...one for the original mxd and another to save the layers I added to it. |

error on mxd.save/saveACopy I saved all of the code that uses the mxd variable so I need it to be defined and exist in order for it to work. There are variables included in my code above that aren't defined here, but are irrelevant to my mxd save issue. This is why I cannot remove the mxd file. |

error on mxd.save/saveACopy I guess I should have included that I have an env.workspace set and that I also have the overwrite = True (edited in original post), but the mxd falls outside of the .gdb so the overwrite doesn't apply to it. Is there a way to set the overwrite = true for files outside of the env.workspace setting? |

Script tool Value error oh...1 other thing. I found out that my script is slightly disjointed. I have 3 variables for the .mxd and 2 for the .gdb. I'm in the process of cleaning this up and making it more efficient...so feel free to change it if you need to. |

Script tool Value error I think that is where my problem lies. For some reason, I thought I read/concluded from reading somewhere that output paths don't need to be included in the script tool. I can't make the property box bigger to display all of my parameters but I attached a spreadsheet with the values defined in the property box for each parameter. If you still need me to post actual screen shots, let me know. |

How to clip a vector feature to the extent of an existing raster dataset using arcpy Thank you!! Before I saw this post, I was able to at least manually do it within Arc, but it sure seems like my way is slightly convoluted. I created a dummy shapefile and then constructed a polygon with the editor tools which outlined the boundary of the raster data. Then I ran the clip tool on the polylines using this dummy shapefile as what it should clip them too. I got an error, but then I used feature to polygon and used the result of this as the shapefile for the polylines to be clipped to and it worked!! I will need arcpy so thanks for that!! :-) |
