comment Web api authentication and MVC 4
@DarinDimitrov I'm trying this approach with MVC 5/Web API 2. The default config of Web API 2 calls SuppressDefaultHostAuthentication() which prevents this approach from working. According to this article, removing this call makes the API vulnerable to CSRF attacks. Is there a way to make this work without the security risk?

comment How to return two models in MVC?
Right, I re-read your original post and see that CatId is just a prop of the Categories class. You'll need to add a prop to your view model. The approach suggested by teo van kot should work if you make sure CategoryList is initialized before rendering your view.

I expect some errors due to Same-origin policy are being logged in your javascript console, which can be viewed by pressing F12 on most common browsers.

This will just load the text from the href attribute of the a tag into the div. She wants the content returned by the link loaded into the div.

comment Unable to update the EntitySet - because it has a DefiningQuery and no <UpdateFunction> element exist
Is this how generating EDMX has always worked? I'm used to working with Code First which doesn't require a PK on a pure join table.
