Although I am late to answer this, I will leave my comments for the benefit of others who land on this question seeking an answer:- The spec is clear about this. It reads "The contents of the String from toString() are implementation-dependent," (Refer: ecma-international.org/ecma-262/5.1/#sec-15.9.5.2) If you have to stringize date thena a better alternative is to use toISOString(), which as per the spec is strictly "YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ss.sssZ" formatted. (Refer: ecma-international.org/ecma-262/5.1/#sec-15.9.5.43)
