I am the owner and creator of Caterpillar’s Leaf Preschool and Child Care in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. Caterpillar's Leaf was created from the culmination of my past experiences in working with children and the knowledge I gained from my coursework at Colorado State University. My past experiences include growing up in an family child care home and subbing there for up to 7 children at one time, babysitting children of various ages since I was 10 years old, working at Respite Care (caring for children with developmental disabilities), being a nanny for 3 years (caring for infants through preschool age children), doing a practicum in the infant room at The Sunshine House, and doing an internship at The Farm at Lee Martinez Park. I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude (in the top 4% of my class) from Colorado State University (CSU) with two bachelor's degrees, one in Business Administration and the other in Human Development & Family Studies, the latter of which is focused on children and families.
Being a nanny was the best experience I have ever encountered. I love the close relationships and bonds that I was able to create with the children. However, as a nanny it was hard to help children develop socially. I believe it is not just important to allow children to interact with other children, but to learn how to create relationships and friendships with each other. This is why I created Caterpillar’s Leaf, so I could still build close relationships with children, but also help them with other critical developmental skills that are sometimes hard to address as a nanny. My focus is to help children develop cognitively, linguistically, socially, emotionally, physically, and academically by providing many meaningful play opportunities (yes, playing is fundamental in childhood!!) for children to explore and learn about the world. Using knowledge I gained from my coursework at CSU, I integrate theories from developmental psychologists such as Abraham Maslow, Lev Vygotsky, John Bowlby, Jean Piaget, and Erik Erikson in everyday interactions with the children and the preschool curriculum to help children achieve their full potential.
