comment What aspects should we consider when choosing a name for our child?
Admittedly, if you asked which name is Biblical, or "more Biblical" between Simon and Daniel, I would have said Daniel. Though I am coming from a different perspective, being a rabbi ;-).

comment Woman wearing her husband's comfortable clothing
I have heard from rabbis that wearing a man's suit jacket if the woman is cold is acceptable.

comment Speaking in the middle of Kaddish
I once made a hand motion to someone that he should not speak during the kaddish. He objected vociferously to this. He suggested that I ask R' Herschel Shachter if one may talk during kaddish, and if it is appropriate to quiet talkers. My chevruta & I approached RHS, asked, and he responded that of course one may not talk then, and that I should tell this person that he should be shushed. My chevruta wondered, "What did he think RHS would say? That he is allowed to talk?"

comment What is the status of a library loan?
I had assumed the intent was with regard to the "four watchmen", making the borrower liable for essentially any damage to the book except for regular use.

comment What is the status of the psak of a Maharat?
Why would the "psak" of a maharat be any different from the "psak" of any learned but unordained individual?

comment Witness signing on a get "ben ish ploni"
My apologies for not giving a more specific citation within the given class. It has been some time since I listened to it. If someone does want to listen through and say where it is, I'd prefer that be left as a comment.

If there is known to be more than one "Yosi ben Shimon" (Talmud's example) in a given community, they must resort to either an additional generation "YbS ben Moshe" or another descriptor "YbS HaRofe". R' J. David Bleich discusses this here: yutorah.org/lectures/lecture.cfm/776187/Rabbi_Dr_J_David_Bleich/…

comment Headache remedy on a fast day?
I will say that there was a fast day where I saw midway through that my then small headache would inevitably become a big headache, so I had one small cup of coffee. I felt great for the balance of the day. Apparently, my headache comes from caffeine (and maybe dehydration).

comment May one eat cheese that is wormy?
I believe it is the Taz who mentions casu marzu specifically. In Sardinia, apparently people eat such things.

comment Blowing shofar at a wedding
@DoubleAA I could point to chiddushim therein, but instead I'll just say that A) he is qouting and maybe Michael Chussid would have used a different word and B) amendments need not be "it was A & now its B" but can be making explicit that which was implicit or not previously discussed.

comment Standing for MiSheBerachs and certain other communal Tefilloth
I have long wished that instead of saying "please rise for the mi sh'beirach for <Israel, Tzahal, gov't>", the gabbai would instead say, "Please remain silent for the mi sh'beirach..."
