Wow, this was it! Talk about an obscure issue! @BrianEphraim If you don't need scrolling on your page, you can also set a touchmove event listener on document.body and call preventDefault on the event. That'll prevent zooming.

@Manu Works for me in terminal. The fn+arrow keys work exactly the same as the dedicated home/end/pgup/pgdn keys on my Apple Keyboard.
