MDC.remove() is necessary to avoid leaking memory. Of course if your healthchecks are infrequent, this doesn't matter much; but each time you do MDC.put() you consume some memory, and I don't think it's reclaimed automatically.

comment Is it normal for most people to play root or inverted chords?
On guitar very few chords are straight triads starting on the root. Novices play inversions because the easy fingerings are often inversions. Experts play inversions because they sound good.

Also, your original calculations assumed that all days since the millisecond zero are 24 hours. That happens to be true for your system clock (and mine), but some clocks might account for leap-seconds.

comment Netty, Strings and flushing
Actually ended up fixing this my leaving my own String rewriter as a MessageToMessageDecoder<String>, placing the StringDecoder before it in the pipeline, and placing the StringEncoder in the pipeline of the onward channel.

comment What are unused/undeclared dependencies in maven ? What to do with them?
Why is it a good idea to explicitly declare transitive dependencies? Isn't automating transitive dependencies part of what Maven is good for?

What makes you think this isn't efficient enough? I bet it the '10 or 15' times the entry isn't null, doesn't slow down your app.
