following googlecloudplatform.github.io/… so you suggest that WP should not maintain connection, that connections should drop to zero? Would not think connection would keep instance up, with no activity?

found active connections it stays at 1, I restarted sql since activity is rw/sec.. it rarely rounds above 0 after restart it seems to be staying at 0

Read/Write extended periods of 0 activity (days) don't see Active connections? But "Summary" under app engine shows extended periods of 0..

for the record I installed the PHP5 meta package, the php5-cgi package and the php5-mysql package from the Ubuntu repos I was then able to execute tom@tom-sam:~$ dev_appserver.py --php_executable_path=/usr/bin/php-cgi ~/Documents/appengine-php-wordpress-starter-project note the new executable path... The upgrade to 4.0 proceeded without a hitch.. I'll just have to see how the GAE deploy goes...
