You probably shouldn't be using UIKit (or core animation) for games. I tried for an app that wasn't a game, but an art app that was "game like", and somewhere around having about 40 custom UIViews on screen things started to break down. I don't think you can do a real-time game using the framework. This is what Sprite Kit is for.

comment How to best handle CoreData + iOS State Restoration?
@Shinigami using a singleton for CD is something that sounds like a good idea at first, but as your app gets more complicated you see why you don't want to do it. As you start spinning off other MOCs it becomes a bit of a pain.

comment get UIView's viewcontroller (iphone)
Sometimes you have a very specific reason to need to do something, it may have nothing to do with shipping an app. It might be a unit test, it may just be to satisfy some curiosity. The "shouldn't need to do that" isn't a productive answer.

comment iOS UICollectionView inside UITableViewCell
I don't think you'd need a table view at all. I've done collection views inside of table views before, reason being to take advantage of things like row reordering. But if you're organizing everything alphabetically... off the top of my head I think you could do this with a Flow Layout, collection view sections, and tweaking the header. May have to subclass the FlowLayout but I think it can be done.
