comment How to step down 12v to 5v efficiently
Wrt libraries - I'm using the rocketscream/lowpower library which I'm pretty familiar with. I'll have a look at removing the LED. Assuming 100mA for the Arduino + 20mA for the OUTPUT, the 500mA supply should have enough to go round! thanks!

Cool, thanks for the above - currently experimenting, if it doesn't heat that much I'll just leave it, if we're getting roasting will try the above - thanks @Andyaka

So other than the baseline draw of the Arduino Pro Mini (which I can't seem to find anywhere reliably here suggests 16 mA before sleep/modification) That said, however, the baseline draw needs to include the onboard LED and here suggests a baseline chip draw of 50mA. I will additionally require about 20mA from one of the pins to drive the relay when HIGH.

comment Is the chi-squared test appropriate with many small counts in a 5x2 table?
I guess the second part of the question is that ChiSquared/Fishers on a contingency table is the correct way to compare the two to say whether there is a difference in makeup of the two populations?

Thanks. But Fisher's exact (or similar) is the correct way to assess the difference between the two populations?
