The answer you gave here is basically what I did before I asked the question here (I also had to modify the "home as up" icon. I was hoping I could get the system to do all that as well as adding RTL support and so on, but I haven't figured out how either. Thanks for your thoughts though.

Thanks for the answer, but I'm looking for a way to extend the built in style. I know I can replace the overflow icon (and the home as up icon) in the action mode, but I was hoping to avoid doing that and just use the built in style.

Yes, you would do that in the onClick method.

newtext is getting set when they press OK, but you're not doing anything with that variable so you're not going to see it. Maybe put it in a toast to confirm it's working, or debug it to see for yourself.

Maybe you need to modify the question. There is no "check to see if the user pressed ok." You just execute the code in the listener when they press ok. It doesn't get executed until they press ok.
