I'm a software developer working in the Atlanta area.
I graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla, (now Missouri S&T) with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I spent several years working in manufacturing automation/control systems, primarily on the HMI (Human-machine interface) side. Much of this time was spent pulling various data out of control systems for reporting and analysis, which led to me finally ‘crossing the fence’ into IT full time.
During my time in automation, I’ve made beer, processed corn, killed cows, cleaned wastewater, made cement, tracked hazardous waste, loaded and unloaded too many chemicals to count from ships and rail cars, and tracked the machinery that makes ammunition for the M16 Assault Rifle.
IT has been varied as well, doing projects that tracked mortgages and homebuilding contracts, tracked pharmaceuticals for long term care facilities, was architect and lead developer on a startup social shopping/network site, and worked in digital advertising.
