OK, I already know how do do this. The thing is you are explicitly making any_function unpack to two values, which is not really any_function but just a_function now because we've hardcoded the function name. And in the second example, you have also hardcoded the function name m when entering the patch context manager.

Your change was correct. * is to unpack sequences (lists, tuples...) and ** is to unpack mappings (dicts). i.e. *args will unpack a sequence of args to positional arguments, and **kwargs unpacks keys and values to keyword arguments.
