Doing some requested math.

comment Why was Jabba immune to Luke's powers of the Force in Return of the Jedi?
Well, theoretically, one can use move object to beat a Hutt... but no matter how good, in all three RPG's, you can't use the force to influence the Hutt's mind. Hutts and Toydarians both have this ability in the FFG system.

comment Is warp drive a legitimate avenue of scientific investigation?
The issue is one of cabin fever and food supplies. 160 days is past the point where most crews suffer morale breakdowns. Any meaningful trip needs to have more than just the crew needed to keep the ship going, but then you get into "how do we keep them busy and sane during the trip"

@SevenSidedDie Reaction and Morale may be in the DMG. Until the DMG actually releases, we won't know for sure.

comment Supporting degrees of success and failure when rolling
@BraddSzonye I checked... no by 5 rule exists in the PHB nor PBR (and the text on ability checks is identical). Nor is there mention of this in Thieves' Tools. I also can't find it in the playtest materials, either. You're correct about its use in HotDQ.

It's worth noting that this mode is used extensively in Hoard of the Dragon Queen. And not just for knowledge rolls, either.

comment How does one dispatch a helpless opponent?
Actually, coup de grace generally would be an autokill, which the critical doesn't do. Mind you, if unconscious due to damage, that crit does count as 2 failed saves, so you need to either do more than their Max HP or hit them twice to ensure a kill.

-1 for factual error in the opening premise, as there is guidance in both the Player's Basic Rules and in the Player's Handbook.

comment Answers to bad questions
@SevenSidedDie the overzealous emphasis on "good questions" has resulted in days where the "new questions" is NOTHING but closed or on hold. That's toxic for a Q&A site, no matter the format.
