comment Real Time Performance With Core Image Blend Modes
My view hierarchy looks like this: UIScrollView -> UIImageVIew -> UIView -> GLView And this is in portrait. my view hierarchy is fairly complicated. I might try making a demo app and see if that is the problem.

Yup it is, I just did some more testing and on iPhone 4 I am getting < 5 fps. My guess right now is that core image is somehow adding a ton of overhead. I know if I dropped down to using OpenGL directly I would be getting real time performance easily.

comment Why does drawRect get called when I set a rotation transform in OSX? Shouldn't this be in hardware?
So I figured out a partial solution, I can use layer hosting NSViews instead of layer backed NSViews and then drawRect does not get called during the rotation transformation. I'm still not sure why exactly this doesn't happen when I use a layer backed view so if somebody has some insight here I would definitely like to hear it.

comment iOS Detect Drag Stopped
I know this is ancient but this is not complete. You need to send the message for the UIControlEventTouchUpOutside as well, otherwise the user could drag their finger outside of the control bounds and then let go and you wouldn't get the message.
