I write web code as a hobby in the few leftover intervals.
Everyone has their concept of what makes a good programmer. For me, it's this:
Know thyself. If your child wants to watch Barbie's Dreamhouse with you, split the screen and use that time to clean up indentation, comments, and spacing. Don't start ripping things apart unless you know you will have peace long enough to have it all back together.
Think big even if you only have the time and resources for small. That way if your project becomes a bigger deal, you already have the groundwork in place to adapt.
