comment Is there a tool to dynamically redirect output to a new file on request
You could probably run logrotate with a custom config file manually, depending on the behaviour of your monitor_program, but that's somewhat hackish.

comment Regular expression for odd number of 0s
While this is certainly technically possible (what you describe can certainly be done by a finite state automaton), the regexp will be incomprehensible and unmaintainable. The approach that is conceptually easiest would be to convert your existing regexp into a finite state automaton, do a product automaton construction to track number of 0s, and convert that back into a regexp. Basically, you need to find an introductory text on formal languages and read the chapter on finite state automata and regular languages. It's not deep, but tedious.

comment Is it possible to setup a Zeo cluster on Plone 3
@AndrewMcLagan: AFAIK, there is no master-master, but the list of write transactions that an anonymous user could cause are fairly small. (Logging in, Image thumbnail generation, PloneFormGen spring to mind.) Also, you may want to cache the hell out of things -- many people like Varnish.

There is zc.zrs which does master-slave replication of databases. It already existed around the time of Plone 3 but was commercial then. It might be worth investigating if you can run recent versions with older Zope clients.

comment Use of && and || operators to handle the result of the same command
@JuliePelletier: yes, which is my point exactly: if the success handler echo true should ever fail itself, the failure handler echo false is executed, even if the original command was successful.

Yes and no: [[ "a" == "a" ]] && /bin/false || echo false gives "false", which may or may not be useful if you just want to look at the exit status of the first command.

So you want to automatically run your clear-cache script whenever the "used" value goes above, say, 90% of system memory?

comment Python padding a base 64 encoded message to a fixed length
Since base64 will pad with = if the input is not a multiple of 3 bytes, it might be conceivable that padding with = will not require any extra code when decoding. (But I've not tried it right now.)

Will your Ip-based cert also be self-signed? A certificate can cover multiple IPs/DNS names/mail addresses at the same time, the phrase to look for is "Subject Alternate Names".
