Hobbyist programmer with an on & off relationship in the past with C++, now I'm spending time with Ruby.
Background is web development with mainly X/HTML and CSS and a little PHP. Earlier in career I used a lot of classic ASP (out of necessity) and was moving to C# with .NET. Then Hurricane Katrina happened and I had to move and couldn't find a job in my field. I got a manufacturing job and have now mostly been away from computers for 4-5 years. I feel totally out of the loop.
In 2005 I read about something called Ruby on Rails and dabbled in it for a little while before the manufacturing job (I blogged about my experience at http://rubyonrailsexperience.blogspot.com). I'm trying to get back into it, but decided that I would be more successful if I first had a proper understanding of Ruby itself. So here I am.
