comment What should NOT be managed by puppet?
Re: Updates. One thing that can get you in trouble with puppet running your updates is when the critical service is being patched, e.g.: mysql, apache - you don't want those restarting on the whim. Puppet provides ways to lock in the version of those packages, that's how I've avoided it while enjoying general updates for other nuts and bolts.

comment Logstash can't read files it should have access too
Also works by adding "LS_GROUP=adm" to /etc/defaults/logstash - the nice part about that is that it's easier to manage using puppet .

True. I finally re-read the docs and took the "filename" part literally. If you want to post this as an answer I'll + it

comment permanently ignore a dependency with bower
It also affects users using an IDE; e.g. I don't want all the bootstrap CSS classes clouding my autocomplete.

Apparently it was because of a raid flag on the disk - as per: askubuntu.com/questions/182179/…

comment PHP DateTime Interval errors
And since that DateInterval terminology is ... interesting, have a look at something like Carbon: carbon.nesbot.com - that uses real english for things and extends DateTime
