comment In fortran: Is CONJG(Z) equivialent to DCONJG(Z) when compiling with -fdefault-real-8?
Last question, I got a little bit confused by table 2.2 in docs.oracle.com/cd/E19957-01/805-4939/6j4m0vn6o/… (if it applies to gfortran?), I read it so that double complex would map to complex*32 with flag applied. On a different note, could I use complex*16 and complex*32 safely in the same arithmetic expression?

thanks, that clarifies it - my knowledge of fortran is rudimentary, if the only call to this subroutine is with a complex (n) as argument, why would it not be interpreted to be complex data (2*n)? which would be a problem here... trying to figure out some code that has been in the works since the 80s.

Thanks all of you, libraries and applications using libraries that I have come across makes the assumption that the implementation stores the complex components consecutively (alternating in an array). In which case correct behaviour is, as far as I can tell, ensured while changing between REAL (assuming alternating real and imaginary components) and COMPLEX references into the same memory (as long as they are based on the same precision).

@Philipp: Yes, but using buf.getvalue() in this way might (?) create a copy of the contents.

By the way, this is probably not strictly limited to Python 3.4.
