comment HTML/Javascript search function with AJAX
I wasnt sure about the way you commented out reading from the csv file. Are you saying that I should call the file there, because there was no other mention of it being referred to anywhere else. Does your example work for csv files with ajax? Or is it just a suggestion?

function contentDisp(){ //jQuery.ajax({ //assume this is being called //url : "file.csv", //success : function (data) { //now let's say data gets: var data = "one;two;three;four;"; result = findIn(jQuery("#searchword").val(), data); makeList("#contentArea", result);

Hi. I was trying to understand what you've posted in the link

Thanks for this, but unfortunately doesnt work for me. I'm using netbeans and I'm not sure that code works for accessing a file. Also not sure about console.log for the results as I'm not sure how this displays results. The index also comes up as an error, unused value. Have you tested this? Are you using any additional libraries/plugins?

Thanks, I saw something on JSON so will go and have another look at that. I know how to do it in PHP, but can't use PHP because of external restrictions.

The text area is part of the problem, but I've left it in there as it was the only way I could find that would get anything to display. So for now, better than nothing.

Hi, thanks for the response. As is, the data from the file displays fine. All lines are displaying underneath each other. So adding the line you've recommended doesnt change anything. What I want to do is change the display in the html table, so that each line of data is in its own row (with borders). Currently ALL lines of the file are dislpaying in one row.

Originally I had cats and dogs together in one table but then ended up with several nulls, and I thought multiple tables were better than nulls?? Anyway union works perfectly. Hadn't come across that before. thanks

I'll try that. From the brief description I have used, would you say it is badly designed? Would I be better constructing the tables in another way? (the dog and cat tables cant be combined because of different numbers/type of attributes)
