comment Java: Get body out of HttpContext?
Check this question: you can inject the HttpServletRequest using @Context (import javax.ws.rs.core.Context;) annotation

You could write an answer to your own question and highlight the differences between the code in the question and the mentioned article. This way when someone searches the site he will see that there is an answer to this question. You could also accept your own answer :)

comment performing create-or-update with jdbi
Something came up from the JDBI's Google user group. You can use the described solution of abstract class with annotated abstract methods and add concrete implementation for the "createOrUpdate" method. Quite handy IMO.

You add an insert() and update() method in the annotated interface DAO. CreateOrUpdate() logic is implemented in the layer above the DAO with select() and if/else. So the answer of your question is: the "CreateOrUpdate" thing is not supported on the interface DAO.

Also you can add/implement custom ConnectionPoolMonitor that could be integrated with the Metrics library used by Dropwizard. So you will have the internal connection pool stats directly together with the other stats on the default page.

I've made a quick check about astyanax. The most suitable thing to do (IMO) is to query the information schema for the keyspace you are interested in (see this question) - you will know if you can access the cluster and if the cluster knows about the keyspace you are interested in.

Have you verified the sending code? For example to use local proxy or any other way to get access to the contents of the sent request.
