Who Constitutes "Pop-Sci" or "Pop-Psych" On This Site? Thanks for the further explanation. I'm compelled to state for the record that I neither watch nor follow Dr. Phil or the like :) |

Who Constitutes "Pop-Sci" or "Pop-Psych" On This Site? Thanks for defining it for me (Chuck Sherrington's comment was very helpful too). Would popular TV or radio personalities, like Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, Dr. Ruth, Dr. Drew, etc., fall into this category? As you and Chuck have explained it, and as I understand it, I don't think I'd care for "pop psych" questions here. Thanks again. |

Who Constitutes "Pop-Sci" or "Pop-Psych" On This Site? @ArtemKaznatcheev - I read through some of the transcripts because I was considering coming into the CogSci chat myself, and I wanted to get a feel for the tone, topics, and atmosphere of the room. The chat transcripts were very helpful in that regard. |

Do we need the [psychology] tag? My question was: Do new users know that a dash is required between individual words? However, if the tag list self-populates or auto-completes, there is no reason to be concerned whether a newbie knows that a dash between words is the norm for tags. You've addressed my questions. |

Who Constitutes "Pop-Sci" or "Pop-Psych" On This Site? I read the terms used a few times in chat. I didn't bookmark the specific transcripts; I found myself mulling the two terms over after reading the chat logs. |

Do we need the [psychology] tag? @ArtemKaznatcheev - That makes sense. My only other question would be do new users know to put the dash in between related words? If the search engine doesn't need the dash to return results, then there's no problem. |

Is pedophilia a sexual orientation or a mental disorder? @SonnyOrdell -- I finally found the time to work in some information regarding paraphilia and mental disorders. I hope it clarifies how the classification of paraphilia as a mental disorder works and is applied. Note: the DSM-IV classified paraphilia as an Axis II disorder; the revised DSM IV-TR moved paraphilia to Axis I. :) |
