comment Weird text alignment in System Information on Yosemite
@jtbandes: It was the scrollbars. I don't have an extermal mouse, but I had "Show Scroll Bars" set to "Always". Switching it to "When scrolling" fixed the problem. Please put that as an answer.

@Buscar웃: no third party audio software or hardware; the issue affects many other fields, I added that to the question

comment TRIM won't turn on Samsung 256GB 840 Pro
Trim Enabler (that the author of the blog post doesn't like) worked fine for me on all 10.9 versions. But if you don't want to use it, note that 2 of the comments in the blog post suggest that the instructions don't work on 10.9.5 for other people too. Note also the comment below one of the 10.9.5 comments about rebooting twice, that could help.

The 4.3.28 error was fixed by the Macports bash developer, removed the note mentioning that error

revised How do I recompile Bash to avoid Shellshock (the remote exploit CVE-2014-6271 and CVE-2014-7169)?
The edit wasn't simple version update; it mentioned that the current version is corrupted on Macports and the suggestions would only work after 4.3.28 is fixed
